The Spirit Of Compassion (from Mystical Journey to Putuo Shan)

Recitation:

The crises facing humankind,
Have become more numerous and acute.
People have an infinite capacity for degeneration,
If left unawakened and unmindful of discipline.
People today, are simply falling ever downward.
Unless we stop now and think,
And completely change our way of living,
We will certainly destroy ourselves.
Human nature can change for the better,
For from the beginning of the universe,
Everything in the world was equal and at peace.

We see with our eyes,
And physical forms become illusory.
We may see large and small,
Appearing and disappearing,
Things different and changing in every way.
Before our eyes, we see only the apparent forms.
The fact is, at the root of everything,
There is a world of one likeness,
Where everywhere is the same,
Where people live in unity,
Like brothers and sisters,
Sharing the same life.
When human beings enjoy co- existence,
And mutual prosperity,
Respecting and loving one another,
Great happiness and harmony,
Will be achieved in the world!

We willfully calculate loss and gain,
Act wrongfully and cultivate unwholesome thoughts,
Thereby bringing all manner of misery upon ourselves.
Much of our experience of life,
Is based on assumptions and perceptions,
That are contrary to reality.
We should see the real aspect of all things,
To achieve perfection of character,
Through body and through mind,
And to work for the salvation of mankind.
To try to be better people,
To show our gratitude,
To do small kindness,
To drop a single good word,
Are part of the way,
To achieving perfection of character.
The willingness of self-cultivation,
Through personal practice,
Is the way to achieving salvation.
This potential is within all of us.


Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara sings:

When we see people floundering,
When we see people in distress,
Feeling wells up in us,
Of wanting to help them.
We are filled with a sense,
Of loving friendship,
And a desire to walk hand in hand,
Along the true human way.
This, is the Spirit of Compassion,
And is the way to achieving salvation.
This Spirit is Self-sacrificing.
To awaken this Spirit in anyone,
To bring even one more person into the same way,
Is to raise the level of humanity,
That will ultimately bring to mankind,
Peace, Happiness and Harmony in the World!

The Spirit of Compassion,
The Spirit that is Self-sacrificing,
Is the Spirit that will ultimately bring to mankind,
Peace, Happiness and Harmony in the World!
YES, LET US ALL AWAKEN THIS SAME SPIRIT IN US AND IN EVERYONE!
